I Can't Take It Anymore!

I was astounded recently when a client who retained my firm to do an executive search said,

"Can we arrange the payments so that I can hold off paying until ROUND 2?"

I asked incredulously, "What's ROUND 2?"

And the response was,

"That's the second series of candidates which we will see, after we see the first series which usually are wrong and require refinement!"

Ridiculous...do you buy a car that way?? Do you fall in love that way??  Would you go to an expensive restaurant that way??

Agree on a spec, do the work correctly the first time and be damn sure that the candidates the client sees are the right candidates.

I was amazed that professional hiring managers have been trained to pay executive recruiters to PRACTICE!!!
